Baddlewords was organically crafted to suit our internal needs after performing thousands of AdWords experiments on behalf of our clients.
One of the first things we began testing was the relationship between Ads and Conversion rates.
While most of our clients had been focused on Click Through Rates (CTR) and Cost Per Click (CPC). We wanted to prove that we could determine a maximum Cost Per Conversion (based on contribution margin) that we ourselves would be willing to pay if it were our own dollars being spent.
By moving our focus to cost per conversion, we increased qualified traffic, then promoted keywords that increased conversions at a lower cost and ultimately we began adjusting Ad creative to maximize conversion.
With our renewed focus on contribution margins we narrowed our focus even more on A|B Split Testing of our Ads. By pitting two Ads against each other within the same Ad Group we could determine which Ad would yield the greatest number of conversions (leads or sales).
Initially, conducting this type of testing we would test different Ad titles or description lines and at some point, we'd even begin be testing changes in punctuation.
What amazed us, is that an exclamation point versus a period, where all other things remained the same, could generate a 4% lift in conversion.
What became difficult and ultimately inspired Baddlewords.com, was the tracking of Ad versions because there are only a discrete number of keywords for each Ad Group that can be tweaked before you start recreating Ads that you have already tested.
To ensure that you do not duplicate your efforts Baddlewords maintains an archive of previously tested Ads, so you'll be alerted when you attempt to duplicate past efforts.
In addition, we have created a conversion optimization algorithm that includes a built-in test for statistical significance to ensure that the reduction of Ad spending could be achieved while significantly increasing conversions with a real opportunity to maintain budgets while radically increasing conversion!
This application has worked so well for us that we in turn made the decision to share it with other pragmatic advertisers (for a small fee) who are striving to create outrageous value for their customers.
